Neil Armstrong (1930­) was the first man to walk on the moon. His 
words, “One small step for man, one giant step for mankind,” are 
hallmarks of the event. Before training as an astronaut, Armstrong was 
a naval aviator for three years in Korea, and a research pilot with the 
Lewis Flight Propulsion Lab at the NASA Speed Flight Station.
